We use onions in so many of our everyday dishes.

We aim to plant the onion sets in the early spring, usually about the end of March when things are starting to warm up. We cultivate the soil to produce a fine seedbed before planting the onion sets (mini onion plants) about an inch deep and 3 inches apart in rows.

Harvesting onions is a done in three stages. The first part involves cutting off all the excess leaf and leaving just the bulbs and the onion neck.  The onion is then lifted out of the soil and then placed back on the ground to start the drying process naturally by the sun. They are left on the ground for at least 24 hours before harvesting and loading into trailers and into the yard for storage.

Once the onions are dry, they are loaded into lorries and taken away to a processing factory to be included into so many dishes.
